| Hunting debate splits Kenya wildife community
A controversial proposal to help save Kenya's wildlife by scrapping a 30-year ban on sport hunting split delegates at a conference in the east African nation on Thursday. Tens of thousands of tourists flock to Kenya each year to see lions, leopards, elephants, wildebeest and other wildlife roaming the parks and reserves. But animal numbers have fallen by at least two-thirds over the last three decades, and experts blame poaching plus human destruction of their habitats. Those backing sport hunting say it would preserve wildlife by encouraging better management and earning big money that could be ploughed back into conservation. It would also bring Kenya into line with neighbours Uganda and Tanzania, and with South Africa, which all profit from restricted hunting.
Children's author comes to Boise
"Paths to Peace: People Who Changed the World" is a children's book that celebrates 16 peacemakers, from Mother Teresa to Cesar Chavez. Jane Breskin Zalben wrote and illustrated it. This weekend, the Idaho Peace Coalition brings her — and her message of art and peace — to Boise. A series of events includes a public talk about writing and illustrating at Boise State, an exhibition at J Crist Gallery and a family celebration at Ahavath Beth Israel synagogue. Breskin Zalben began traveling in the Islamic world in the mid-1990s. She found herself drawn to the architecture and light of that culture, but also to the Islamic calls to prayer heard throughout cities such as Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Rabat, Morocco; and Cairo, Egypt. "Being a Jewish person and hearing the calls five times a day, including in the middle of the night, was life-changing," she said.

Fun with ‘geocaching’
It's an entertaining game all GPS users can enjoy. It can be as easy as visiting your local park or as difficult as climbing a mountain or diving into the ocean.I have heard of the term "geocaching" but never really knew what it was all about. After some searching on the Internet, I learned this game is worldwide. Caches are buried or hidden by an individual, and the coordinates are posted on the Web. The idea is to find this cache, sign the log and post your success on the Web.A cache is a hidden treasure. You never know what you could find. Caches may be small or large. A cache must contain a notebook. Beyond this the cache may have any number of things inside — money, sporting or concert tickets, trinkets, clues to a larger treasure, or lottery tickets. The rules of Geocaching are simple: 1.
