Kenya: the Dalai Lama not welcome in Kenya

Gathara's World responds to the news that the Dalai Lama has once again being denied Kenyan visa: The Dalai Lama doesn't need to come to the Maasai Mara to see Kenyan animals. Just watching the antics of the government over the his proposed visit should suffice. Moody Awori's monkey business simply provides more evidence that Kenya under Kibaki is a banana republic.

Kenya: Woman Grieves Over Stolen "Wives"

Until recently, she was a happy husband, what with four wives and more than 10 children. And why not? After all, in her younger days she was kicked out of her matrimonial home for being unable to have children.

The setback did little to dampen the spirit of Ms Elizabeth Chemasunde of Kapsasur village, North Nandi district, in seeking to bring up a family that would give her company and warmth in old age.

InfoWorld publishes false report on Apple Mac security

"Nancy Gohring, writing for InfoWorld, delivered a misleading report yesterday on a Mac security exploit contest held at the CanSecWest conference in Vancouver, BC," Daniel Eran writes for RoughylDrafted. Eran writes, "In her defense, it appears likely that Gohring did not write the headline ["Myth crushed as hacker shows Mac break-in"] for her InfoWorld article, which described the contest winner as being 'able to remotely break into a Mac as part of a contest designed to illustrate security flaws in OS X.' That part was simply wrong." "Whoever did write the headline must have been smoking weed in celebration of 4/20, because Gohring's article clearly described a local exploit. There's a big difference between the remote exploits that made Windows infamous for its insecurity and a local exploit of an application," Eran writes.

03/04: Long Beach Symphony Association's 24th Crescendo annual ...

ON MARCH 4, the Long Beach Symphony Association held the 24th Crescendo annual auction fund-raiser for the orchestra. Herald trumpeters greeted hundreds of supporters at the doors of the Renaissance Hotel.

Once again, Steve Lang and his merry band had turned the scene into a magic space - this time of sparkling silver, blue and white. Chairpersons Paulette and Henry Matson welcomed one and all as attendees moved in to bid on silent auction items. As has become customary, the biggest drawing card was the extensiveness and high quality of the wine section, which ended the silent auction.

Dinner tables featured lush centerpieces of blue and white hydrangeas, white roses, lilies, silver safari birch and blue thistle paperwhites. A large screen entertained and informed bidders as they dined on truffled tenderloin and oak-roasted salmon or truffled vegetable feuillete.
